Tata Projects awarded ETS a pre-engineered steel building in Assam — an industrial facility built to house and move heavy machinery beneath wide, column-free spans, delivered on a fast-track timeline in demanding industrial site conditions. Engineered for speed and built for performance, here is how ETS delivered it.

The Challenge

The facility demanded large clear spans so that heavy machinery could be installed, operated, and serviced without intermediate columns obstructing movement. Achieving that column-free interior called for a robust hot-rolled frame engineered for heavy loads.

Site realities compounded the brief: accessibility for heavy equipment handling was limited, the programme ran on a tight fast-track schedule, and execution had to proceed in challenging industrial conditions — all while holding the precision needed for accurate structural fitment and integrated utilities.

The ETS Approach

ETS engineered the building as a hot-rolled frame with spliced connections, with each connection designed in IDEA StatiCa for proven performance reliability and a code-compliant load path. Structural components were CNC-fabricated for accurate fit-up, then erected as a 100% bolted system that made erection faster and more efficient while keeping site welding off the critical path.

Fabrication ran in parallel with site preparation, and sequential on-site assembly reduced installation delays. The envelope was completed with 0.55 mm standing seam roofing and a full-length 3.0 x 1.5 M roof monitor, while pre-engineered structural members carried integrated provisions for HVAC ducts, electrical conduits, and fire systems — keeping services clear of the floor.

The Result

The project achieved an 8–10% overall cost optimization and was delivered ahead of committed timelines through a rapid erection methodology. The large clear-span layout optimised operational efficiency and equipment movement, while the modular structural design leaves room for future expansion.

Sustainability was engineered in: optimised CNC cutting held steel wastage under 2%, skylight integration reduced dependence on daytime artificial lighting, and Rockwool insulated panels improved thermal performance to lower HVAC load. High recycled-steel content and a factory-finished corrosion-resistant coating support sustainable construction and a long, low-maintenance service life. As the client put it: "The speed, precision and execution capability demonstrated by the ETS team enabled faster project completion while delivering the structural performance required for critical industrial operations."
