IS 2062 — The Material
IS 2062 specifies the structural steel itself — its chemistry and mechanical properties across grades such as E250 to E550. The grade dictates yield strength and weldability. Insisting on documented IS 2062 material with mill test certificates ensures the steel in your building actually meets its design assumptions.
IS 800 — The Design Code
IS 800 is the general construction code for steel structures. It governs how members and connections are designed, the load combinations to be checked, and the safety factors applied. A design stamped to IS 800 has been worked to a recognised, conservative methodology rather than rules of thumb.
Why It Matters to Buyers
Compliance is what separates a structure that performs for decades from one that quietly cuts corners on material or connections. Asking for IS 2062 mill certificates and IS 800 design documentation is the simplest quality safeguard a buyer can apply.
