Start with floor area and ceiling height. A single 24-foot HVLS fan can effectively cover up to roughly 2,000–2,500 sqm of open space. Obstructions, racking, and partition walls reduce effective coverage, so the layout — not just the area — determines fan count.
The Savings Mechanism
In summer, the airflow produces a perceived temperature drop of up to 8°C, which lets you raise thermostat setpoints or reduce reliance on spot cooling. In winter, running in reverse pushes warm air down from the ceiling, cutting heating losses. Together these can offset 20–30% of HVAC energy in suitable facilities.
Payback Calculation
A 24-foot fan typically draws just 0.75–1.5 kW. Compare its annual running cost against the HVAC energy it offsets plus any productivity gains from improved comfort. For most warehouses and plants the payback lands within one to three years, after which the savings are recurring.
